In the words of our friends at nearby University of North Carolina-Asheville, “Place is an integral part of our identities and carries with it our past, present, and future. A land acknowledgment is a formal statement that recognizes the indigenous peoples and cultures as stewards of the land on which we and our organization now reside.”
Wicked Weed Brewing humbly acknowledges, with respect, that the land we operate on today is the ancestral land of Anigiduwagi, more commonly known as the Cherokee, the Native people, and original stewards of this land. We, as an organization, understand that there is a need to listen and learn from the Native people of this land. We acknowledge that an act of recognition is only the first step and that history that has often erased indigenous people from the history and story of these lands. With projects like collaborations with 7 Clans Brewing, and ongoing education, we hope to continue to learn from the Eastern Band of the Cherokee, working together to further grow a relationship of respect and reciprocity. We remain committed to our mission of remaining a safe and inclusive space for all, honoring the resiliency of those who came before us and all those who enter this space.
